Hawkes Model for Price and Trades High-frequency Dynamics

چکیده
We introduce a multivariate Hawkes process that accounts for the dynamics of market prices through the impact of market order arrivals at microstructural level. Our model is a point process mainly characterized by 4 kernels associated with respectively the trade arrival selfexcitation, the price changes mean reversion the impact of trade arrivals on price variations and the feedback of price changes on trading activity. It allows one to account for both stylized facts of market prices microstructure (including random time arrival of price moves, discrete price grid, high frequency mean reversion, correlation functions behavior at various time scales) and the stylized facts of market impact (mainly the concave-square-root-like/relaxation characteristic shape of the market impact of a meta-order). Moreover, it allows one to estimate the entire market impact profile from anonymous market data. We show that these kernels can be empirically estimated from the empirical conditional mean intensities. We provide numerical examples, application to real data and comparisons to former approaches.

Clustering of order arrivals, price impact and trade path optimisation
We fit a bivariate Hawkes process to arrival data for buy and sell trades in FX markets. The model can be used to predict future imbalance of buy and sell trades conditional on history of recent trade arrivals. We derive formulae for the raw price impact of a trade as a function of time assuming that trade arrivals are governed by a Hawkes process and that the price is a martingale, and show th...
متن کاملThe Effect of the Origin of Oil Price Shocks on Macroeconomic Dynamics in an Oil-Exporting Country: An Open DSGE Model
In recent years, some research has focused on the importance of the origin of an oil shock for macroeconomic dynamics in both oil-exporting and importing countries. The existing literature lacks a proper open Stochastic Dynamic General Equilibrium (DSGE) framework to investigate the effect of the origins of oil shocks on macro variables in a two-country model consisting of an oil-exporting coun...
متن کاملImpacts of trades in an error-correction model of quote prices
In this paper we analyze and interpret the quote price dynamics of 100 NYSE stocks stratified by trade frequency. We specify an error-correction model for the log difference of the bid and the ask price with the spread acting as the error-correction term, and include as regressors the characteristics of the trades occurring between quote observations, if any. From this model we are also able to...
متن کاملDynamics of Effective Quotes and Spreads between Consecutive Trades: a Real- Time Structural Model of Price Information
This paper develops a real-time structural model of price formation, and uses it to investigate the dynamics of effective quotes and bid-ask spreads between consecutive trades. There is some evidence that the effective bid-ask spreads increase over time when no orders arrive. The effective quotes are found to change over time when no orders arrive. The dynamics of bid and ask are different, and...
متن کاملHow Duration Between Trades of Underlying Securities Affects Option Prices∗
We propose a model for stock price dynamics that explicitly incorporates random waiting times between trades, also known as duration, and show how option prices can be calculated using this model. We use ultra-high-frequency data for blue-chip companies to motivate a particular choice of waiting-time distribution and then calibrate risk-neutral parameters from options data. We also show that th...
